Eligibility: All students studying in recognised schools of class X are eligible to appear for the Stage-I NTS Examination. Student from any board can appear for the examination. The scheme is open only to students of Indian nationality.
However, Indian students studying Abroad in class 10 can appear directly for Stage-II NTS Examination.
How many Scholarships are awarded and what is the Scholarship that one receives:
As per the present rules of the scheme, each year 1000 scholarships awarded.
Scholarships:
(a) A scholarship of Rs.1250/- per month for class-XI to XII, earlier it was Rs. 500 per month.
(b) A scholarship of Rs.2000/- per month for Undergraduates and Post-graduates, earlier it was Rs. 500 per month.
(c) The amount of Scholarship for Ph.D. will be fixed in accordance with the UGC norms.
Mode of Selection: The selection process consists of two levels, the preliminary exam (Stage – I) is conducted by the respective state/UT boards generally in the month of November. The students who qualify in Stage – I, appear for Stage – II examination conducted by NTSE generally in the month of May. The notification for this examination is generally released in the month of July by NCERT.
Reservation: 15% scholarships are reserved for students belonging to SC category, 7.5% for students belonging to ST category and 3% scholarships are reserved for students who belong to PC (Physically Challenged) Category.
NTSE Examination Pattern
Examination will be organised in two sessions on the very same day.
First Stage:
Part I: Mental Ability Test (MAT): 50 Questions of 50 Marks: Time 45 Minutes
Part II: Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) comprises of-
Language Test: 50 Questions of 50 Marks in 45 minutes
Total 100 questions of 100 marks in 90 minutes
Mathematics: 30 marks,
Science: 35 marks
Social Sciences: 35 marks
Total 200 question 200 marks 180minutes
